Woman mugged during walk
WARREN — A 34-year-old Austin Avenue SW woman told police she was mugged by a man Monday morning as she walked her dog along the 100 block of her street.
According to the police report, the man was described in his mid-30s with mid-length hair, a beard and a disheveled appearance. He was wearing a grey shirt and sweat pants and black sandals with white socks.
About 9:30 a.m., the man asked the woman for a cigarette and a phone, and the police report stated that when she refused, the man grabbed her by the neck.
She wrestled as the man tried to bend her over at the waist and the woman scratched his face, the report states. She told police he wanted her to come with him to his parked vehicle about a block away.
After the woman screamed, the man ripped her necklace off, took her ring and ran away, the report states. Police checked the area, but could not find the man. The woman told police the jewelry was fake.
