Teacher suspended after charges, accused of taping girl

WEATHERSFIELD  — The Weathersfield Board of Education has placed Matt Blair, a seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher and head girls track coach, on indefinite suspension without pay starting Thursday.

The board took the action at its October meeting.

In July, Blair, 45, 1256 Cedarwood Drive, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on charges that include voyeurism after police said he secretly videotaped a former member of the girls track team as she undressed. The girl was living at his home at the time.

He was indicted on felony charges of interception of wire, oral or electronic communication, possessing criminal tools and misdemeanor voyeurism. Superintendent Damon Dohar said he was told by officials with the Ohio Department of Education that Blair had to be placed on suspension because of the charges.

Blair is scheduled to appear Nov. 3 for a pretrial proceeding in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Maureen Sweeney’s courtroom.

Blair was released from the Mahoning County Jail after posting a $15,000 bond, according to jail records. Blair has taught for Weathersfield Local Schools for 16 years, most recently middle school science classes, and for the past four years, he has coached the girls varsity track team.
