Memorial soccer game planned

NILES – A tournament of bubble soccer – the game that transforms soccer by putting the players in inflated plastic balls – will be played 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Niles wellness center on Sharkey Drive.

The second annual event is being held in memory of Sierra Giovannone-Roberts, who died in 2014 at 24, after an injury led to an opioid addiction and overdose.

Giovannone-Roberts was an avid soccer player, said Amy Giovannone, her mother and organizer of the game.

A $10 donation gains entry for spectators and players. The proceeds will benefit Solace of Valley, Someplace Safe and Ohio CAN. The number of players will dictate the length of the event.

Picnic food and a 50 / 50 raffle will be held. Contact Giovannone for more information at Amygio22@aol.com.
