Participants are sought for Veterans Day parade in Warren

WARREN — Veterans whose stories were told this year as part of the Tribune Chronicle veteran series are invited to be part of the annual Trumbull County Veterans Day parade next month in downtown Warren.

Ken David, a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, will be the featured speaker at the ceremony before the parade. The focus this year is on Vietnam veterans since the United States just marked the 50th anniversary of the war.

The parade is expected to be led by the 910th Airlift Wing Color Guard, and the marching band from Warren G. Harding High School will participate in the annual parade Nov. 11.

Other participants also are being sought for the event that has been coordinated by the Tribune Chronicle for 14 years. Sue Shafer, Tribune Chronicle events coordinator, said walking units, vehicles, floats or other types of units are encouraged. There is no charge to participate.

The parade will step off at 12:15 p.m. on Veterans Day at Perkins Park, following the annual Trumbull County Veterans Day Federation ceremony, which is held at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW.

The parade will travel south on Mahoning Avenue, past a review stand set up near the Trumbull County Veterans’ Memorial, then head east on Market Street through the downtown area. It will pass the new Samuel E. Lanza Veterans Resource Center on East Market Street.

Sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle since 2003, the parade is one way the newspaper shows appreciation and admiration for not only local service men and women, but those nationwide.

Anyone wishing to participate in the Veterans Day parade may call Shafer at at 330-841-1696 or email her at sshafer@tribtoday.com.
