Dominion extends $25 energy assessment promotion

WARREN — Dominion East Ohio has extended its $25 energy assessment promotion through Dec. 31 to help customers prepare their homes for winter.

The energy assessment, available through Dominion’s Home Performance in partnership with the Energy Star Program, typically costs customers $50, but the value of the assessment is more than $500, company leaders said.

Dominion subsidizes the cost to help customers diagnose high utility usage and home comfort issuesand then provides rebates of up to $1,250 to make recommended energy-efficiency improvements.

“We’ve been offering this program since 2010 and have helped over 15,000 homeowners understand where their homes are wasting energy and how to make improvements to save them energy and money,” Jeff Murphy, Dominion’s president / general manager stated in a news release. “We are excited to offer this special $25 energy assessment until the end of the year so that our customers can prepare their homes for winter and save energy and money.”

A home energy assessment is the first step in the program. An energy auditor visits a customer’s home and uses diagnostic testing and professional evaluation to pinpoint where it is losing energy. Following the assessment, the customer receives a customized energy report with the results, along with recommended energy efficiency improvements, information on rebates available through the program and a list of participating contractors.

Improvements typically include suggestions such as air sealing and insulation, HVAC equipment upgrades, and window and door replacements.
