Austintown bank robbed; no arrest yet
AUSTINTOWN — A robbery took place Tuesday morning at Chase Bank, 4243 Mahoning Ave., according to Austintown police.
The Austintown Police Department told Tribune Chronicle news partner WKBN 27 that it has a possible lead on a suspect, but no arrests had been made by late Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers and the FBI were called to the bank near the intersection of state Route 46 and Mahoning Avenue Tuesday morning, police said, after a man came into the bank and threatened a teller. Police said the man referred to a gun, although he didn’t pull one out.
The man made off with an unspecified amount of cash, and the bank was temporarily closed during the initial investigation, WKBN reported.
Later, police radio traffic reported the suspect was wearing a sun visor and driving a black Kia with license plates GJX 5485. Authorities would not say if the suspect was linked to an earlier attempted robbery at a bank in Lake Milton on Tuesday.
A Trumbull County 911 dispatcher later reported suspicious activity from a black man inside a Farmers National Bank on Youngstown Road in Niles.
