Threats lead to domestic charge

WEATHERSFIELD — A man accused of threatening his mother-in-law with a gun when she asked him to leave 1334 Depot St. was arrested Monday on a charge of domestic violence, according to police and jail records.

Michael Demetro, 26, who allegedly threw items and punched walls during a fight with his wife, is being held without bond in the Trumbull County Jail; an arraignment in Niles Municipal Court had not been scheduled.

Cassandra Demetro showed police text messages from her husband — whom she is divorcing — that state he would kill police if she asked for their help, the police report states.

Officers recovered one gun from the house, but Cassandra Demetro told police he has three others. She reported he pushed her as she begged him not to hurt her mother, and that he threatened to shoot both women, according to the report.

Masked man chases residents

WEATHERSFIELD — A man explaining to police why he crashed into The Car Shop, 1804 N. State St., said he was coming home to assist his wife and roommate after they notified him they were chased into their home by a masked man, a police report states.

Thomas Taylor told police he was driving home in a hurry after his roommate told him a man in a mask got out of a white sports car and chased them up the stairs, tried to get inside and pounded on the windows, a report states.

Taylor said when he pulled into the parking lot of Biviano Floor Covering a white car took off at a high rate of speed, forcing him to swerve, and he struck the building, the report states.

New Bazetta fire station to open

BAZETTA — A new $1.35 million fire station off Warren Meadville Road has been completed five months ahead of schedule.

Trustee Vice Chairman Ted Webb said Monday the 78,000-square-foot building constructed by Milcam Inc. is expected to be open by mid-November.

Trustees are planning a dedication and two-day weekend open house for the new facility in November. The dates will be announced soon, they said.

Once the new station is open trustees will close the current two stations as a way to save on utility costs, Webb said.

Also, trustees are awaiting the arrival by Nov. 15 of a new fire ladder truck funded partly by a $619,000 grant obtained by fire Chief Dennis Lewis.
