Dump truck hits Girard eatery

GIRARD — A dump truck crashed into the Burger King on State Street Wednesday morning.

Police said the driver of the Herman Rossi and Sons dump truck appeared to have suffered from a medical condition before crashing into the eatery around 7:45 a.m. Police said the driver hit a fire hydrant near Dairy Queen before drifting across the street and into the Burger King play area.

The driver, who was not identified, was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital with minor injuries. The eatery was open when the crash occurred, but no one inside was injured.

Man sentenced in meth case

WARREN — A Newton Falls man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges linked to a methamphetamine lab found earlier this year at Newton Village Apartments.

Mark Cowger, 38, 613 Ridge Road Apt. 108, pleaded guilty to illegal manufacture of drugs, possession of chemicals used to manufacture illegal drugs and possession of drugs.

Cowger was indicted after an August investigation into suspicious activity at the apartment conducted by the Trumbull-Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force. Police reports said hazardous materials were removed from the apartment, where the county HAZMAT unit was called.

Surveillance photos by TAG also showed the defendant sustained burns on his arms from making the drug.
