Majority of new indictments drug-related

WARREN – All but six of the 27 felony indictments handed up Tuesday by a Trumbull County grand jury involved some type of drug offense, according to a grand jury report.

The second term of the September session of the grand jury examined more than 34 witnesses covering 65 cases. Felony arraignments are scheduled at 1 p.m. Tuesday before Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos.

During the session, the grand jury also visited the Trumbull County Jail, reporting an overall clean, orderly and secure appearance. The report also noted damaged floor tile, rusted doors and door frames in the kitchen because of the steam used to clean dishes. Several grand jury members also recommended that inmates and employees be offered seasonal influenza vaccines to reduce a health hazard and any potential financial risk to taxpayers.

The following were indicted on felony charges:

l Martez D. Wells, 25, Porter Street NE, Warren, trafficking in heroin, trafficking in cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine;

l Mason B. Houston, 18, Slippery Rock, Pa., possession of hashish, trafficking in hashish, possessing criminal tools, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

l Jonathan M. Barnes Jr., 25, Youll Street, Niles, trafficking in heroin and possession of heroin, both with firearm specification and specification of forfeiture;

l Timothy J. Hartman, 48, North Main Street, Poland, possession of heroin, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

l Jeremiah C. Dickey, 25, Robbins Avenue, Niles, aggravated possession of drugs;

l Brandi M. McMurdy, 35, Reo Boulevard, Warren, possession of cocaine and possession of heroin;

l Zachary D. Lilly, 21, Shanks Down Road, Garrettsville, possession of cocaine;

l Jennifer M. Poling, 34, Mount Everett Road, Hubbard, possession of drugs;

l Rebecca Reed-Martinez, 48, Kenilworth Avenue SE, Warren, illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto grounds of specified governmental facility, possession of heroin and aggravated possession of drugs;

l Ja’Tavion D. Powell, 21, Clearwater Avenue NW, Warren, trafficking in cocaine with specification of forfeiture, possession of cocaine, trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin and aggravated possession of drugs;

l Timothy Kirkland, 18, Surry Road SE, Warren, two counts of burglary, tampering with evidence, safecracking, two counts receiving stolen property and carrying concealed weapon;

l Connor Dotson, 18, Glen Oaks Drive, Warren, burglary, tampering with evidence, safecracking and receiving stolen property;

l Kevin Smith, 55, Main Street SW, Warren, possession of cocaine;

l Ashley L. Moody, 29, Hall Street NW, Warren, possession of heroin, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

l Tina Smithberger, 27, High Street, Warren, aggravated possession of drugs, possession of cocaine and possession of heroin;

l Mitchell S. Mamula, 25, Perkinswood Boulevard SE, Warren, possession of cocaine and aggravated possession drugs;

l Carrie A. Zdanczewski, 27, Wolf Road, Windham, possession of heroin;

l Ricky A. Mohn, 19, Lancer Court NW, Warren, two counts each arson and breaking and entering;

l Marquaias T. Thomas, 23, Breaden Street, Youngstown, two counts aggravated robbery, two counts kidnapping and two counts felonious assault, all with firearm specifications.

The following misdemeanor cases were remanded to a lower court:

l Mark E. Hubbard, 49, Lincoln Avenue, Hubbard, assault (Girard Municipal Court);

l Sixmary Nabel Marte, 23, Bronx, N.Y., forging identification cards (Girard Municipal Court).

The grand jury returned no bills (no indictments) in the following cases:
