Shots fired into homes in Warren

WARREN – Multiple gunshots were fired into two homes about three miles apart early Thursday.

Shortly after 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to Oriole Place S.W. and Webb Street on reports of shots fired into a home. Just after 2 a.m., gunshots were fired into a home in the 700 block of Glenwood N.E.

In the first call, police arrived at 508 Oriole Place S.W., where Nina Chandler of Union Street told officers that she heard shots when she was in the front bedroom of the home preparing the children she was watching for bed.

Chandler said she didn’t “think anything of it until parts of the drywall were causing a scene,” a police report states. Police found that bullets had struck a double-pane window, just above the window, next to the window and the main entry door. Other evidence collected included six spent shell casings and two projectiles.

No one was injured. At least two juveniles and five other people were in the home with Chandler when the shots hit the house, police said.

Witnesses who had been walking toward the residence reported hearing six “small popping noises” originating from a dark-colored SUV Jeep Cherokee. Witnesses stated the vehicle then sped off south, according to a report.

In the second shooting, officers were told that 10 gunshots were heard in the area toward Glenwood at Buena Vista and that a dark grayish-colored vehicle with a dented driver’s door, possibly a Nissan, had pulled into 770 Glenwood to turn around.

Ricardo McKinney of 740 Glenwood N.E. told officers that he had been lying on his couch in the living room when several rounds smashed through the house and damaged interior walls and a TV that was mounted on the wall, a report states.

Ten holes were counted in the exterior of the residence above where McKinney was sleeping and two projectiles were recovered from inside the home. Nobody was injured. Damage to the walls, TV and other household items was estimated around $1,100.

McKinney told officers he believed the shooting stemmed from a previous verbal altercation he had with another person.
