Fuda eyes third term

WARREN – Trumbull County Commissioner Frank Fuda started strong and finished that way, too, on Tuesday to easily win the Democratic nomination for commissioner.

Fuda jumped out to a 74.2 percent to 25.8 percent lead over Hubbard Councilwoman Lisha Pompili-Baumiller, and held on to that advantage through the night to end up winning 70 percent to 30 percent.

His victory over Pompili-Baumiller sets up a November challenge with Patricia Hale Paridon of McDonald, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary election. Fuda is seeking his third term as commissioner.

”I was fortunate to have a lot of good people, really, and when you have good people working with you, good things happen,” Fuda said.

The tally in the race is unofficial and incomplete. Final results must be certified the board of elections by May 27.

Messages left with Pompili-Baumiller seeking comment were not returned Tuesday night.

The two candidates presented widely different perspectives in the campaign.

Among the contrasts, Pompili-Baumiller argued she was the right person to pull Trumbull County from the doldrums, and Fuda presented the opposite, that Trumbull County was growing and developing, and he was the person to continue it.

Pompili-Baumiller, running for countywide office for the first time, said county government has ”tunnel vision” and that business attraction was stagnant.

Fuda said the economy was developing and pointed out the area is the sixth in the United States ”with industries and businesses locating here and expanding the businesses we have here.”

Another contrast in the campaign was money. Fuda raised more than double Pompili-Baumiller and spent about $11,000 more than her, finance reports show.
