Police: Suspect in dog house

GIRARD – Robert T. Naples, 42, was arrested in connection with the 11:20 a.m. Saturday robbery of Charter One Bank, 35 S. Main St.

Naples, 161 Poplar St., Youngstown, is accused of walking to the far left counter in the bank and telling the cashier that he wanted all of her 100 and 50 dollar bills.

The teller at first thought the slightly built man wearing blue jeans and a gray or blue top was kidding, according to Girard police.

He then backed up, placed his hand on his waist, and said, “I have a gun. Now give me your money,” the report states.

The teller hit the alarm and opened the cash drawer. The robber grabbed the money and ran out the front door, the report states.

Shortly after, Naples was spotted at the Jib Jab Hot Dog Shoppe, 313 S. State St., police said.

Naples ran from the restaurant and led multiple police departments on a foot chase that included the area of Morris Avenue S.E., across Interstate 80, through a wooded area and down Trumbull Avenue. The Youngstown Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the U.S. Marshal’s Office assisted in the search.

A Liberty police officer captured Naples about 12:20 p.m. at the state Route 711 northbound ramp. He is expected to appear in Girard Municipal court Monday.
