WHAT: Southington Board of Education meeting on Thursday

PRESENT: Bob Baugher, Patty Anderson, Betsy Dunn, Steve Gilanyi and Tim Arbogast

The board:

l Approved a revised calendar to include one calamity makeup day on May 30. The district used 10 calamity days this winter, with three made up by blizzard bags and others allowed by the state;

l Approved a one-year land-use agreement with resident Don Donaldson whose 10-acre property is landlocked next to the school complex off state Route 534. Baugher said this is the third year for the agreement. The Donaldsons had donated the land to the school district;

l Accepted the retirements of bus mechanic Ron Pauli and cafeteria supervisor Donna Beckner, both effective June 1;

l Recognized the Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge participants who took third place out of 22 teams, with the six team members each receiving $100 scholarships;

l Heard from Baugher that the district is looking at shared services with other districts to help save money;

l Approved the high school band and majorette’s field trip to Cedar Point on May 31. The band and majorettes will be performing at the park. Band boosters are covering costs;

l Approved disposal of a 1999 Freightliner bus.
