Former board member returns

SOUTHINGTON – A former school board member who temporarily moved from the community will return to the board.

The Southington Board of Education at a special meeting on Tuesday named Tim Arbogast to fill the vacancy left by the resignation last month of Albert Haberstroh. Haberstroh left to serve on the Trumbull County Educational Service Center board.

Arbogast, who served three years of a four-year term before selling his home in Southington early last year, has since moved back to the community. Arbogast was selected from three candidates who applied for fill the vacancy. He will serve the remainder of the current term through December 2015.

”I love this community and want to support it and the students. I could have bought a home anywhere in Trumbull County, but I chose to come back here. I hope to continue fulfilling my commitment to the community when I was voted in before to the board for a four-year term,” Arbogast said.

Arbogast has two children who attend Southington schools.

Arbogast was administered the oath of office and will attend his first meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Board President Bob Baugher said, ”We had three very good candidates who applied. Any of the three would have done a wonderful job for us.”

The other candidates were David Balzer and Brian Miller, both very active in the community, Baugher said.

Baugher and board members Betsy Dunn and Steve Gilanyi have all at one time been appointed to fill vacancies on the board before winning in election races for board seats. Dunn had replaced Arbogast when he left the board previously, Baugher replaced former board member Gary Ifft, and Gilanyi replaced Baugher’s former seat when he ran to fill another seat on the board.
