Police: Local man on sixth OVI arrest
NILES – A Bazetta man who police said has an extensive history of driving while impaired was being held Tuesday at the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
Weathersfield police charged Joshua J. Pastore, 35, 2503 Bazetta Road, with operating a vehicle impaired and fleeing or eluding police, both felonies. He is also facing various traffic violations.
He was arraigned Thursday in Niles Municipal Court. He is due back in municipal court Tuesday for a pretrial and preliminary hearing.
Police said they were on the lookout for a vehicle involved in a crash in Niles when they spotted a vehicle traveling south on Route 46 near the Mineral Ridge Fire Station and tried to stop it. Reports state that the driver, later identified as Pastore, refused to pull over.
Police were following the vehicle south on Route 46 when it traveled left of center several times, causing several vehicles to swerve, reports state.
The vehicle passed several vehicles that were in the same lane of traffic and finally pulled over in a parking lot on Route 46 just inside the Austintown township line, reports state.
Police took Pastore into custody and transported him to the Niles police station, where he submitted to a urine test. After checking his driving history, police said they discovered that he had five prior OVI arrests dating back to 1997.
