EGCC considers Warren land

WARREN – Eastern Gateway Community College is looking to expand its presence in downtown Warren.

Multiple properties are being considered for an upcoming project that includes new classrooms, computer labs and student support services, president Laura Meeks confirmed Friday.

Although no purchases have been made, Meeks said an announcement likely will be made within a month as to the new location.

She declined to identify the exact locations being considered, as the discussions are taking place in executive session.

“The good news is, we’re expanding. We want to stay in downtown Warren. We’re absolutely growing and we’re pleased with the support we get (in Warren),” she said.

Meeks also said it is to their advantage to be in close proximity to the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center, 125 W. Market St. Other bonuses include bus transportation and excellent parking and lighting, she said.

“We want to be right downtown, absolutely,” she said.

Eastern Gateway, based in Steubenville, holds classes at seven locations throughout Trumbull, Mahoning, Colum-biana and Jefferson counties, including the Warren Center, 103 W. Market St., Warren, and the Valley Center, 101 E. Federal St., Youngstown.
