Jail sought in sex assault
WARREN – An assistant county prosecutor says he will recommend to a judge that a 73-year-old former caregiver and aide at a Kinsman facility serve some length of prison time after the man pleaded guilty Monday to a sex charge.
Donald Church of Andover remains free on $10,000 bond after pleading guilty to the fourth-degree felony charge of gross sexual imposition. The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 18 months.
Church made admissions to authorities after both patients and staff members at Boyd’s Kinsman House a facility for the developmentally disabled saw Church inappropriately touching a 50-year-old client there May 26, 2013.
Assistant county prosecutor Gabe Wildman said the molestation occurred in the woman’s room, where male employees aren’t supposed to be unsupervised.
Church was secretly indicted in July.
Wildman said he also will recommend to Judge Peter Kontos that Church be classified a Tier I sex offender, which would require him to register his whereabouts with authorities yearly for 15 years.
