Truck slams into home
HARTFORD – A pickup truck that blew through an intersection and a guardrail before slamming into a house early Friday morning has the county Sheriff’s and Engineer’s offices exploring ways to improve safety at the crossroads of Spencer Clark and Bushnell Campbell roads.
The driver of the Ford F-150, who, according to a report, told police he earlier had drunk approximately a bottle of whiskey, is facing charges related to the crash and possibly operating a vehicle while impaired, pending the outcome of blood tests.
The crash isn’t the first time a vehicle has driven through the T-style intersection of Spencer Clark and Bushnell Campbell roads. That has Sheriff’s Office Maj. Harold Firster wanting a review that could result in reinforcing the guardrail and putting in double stop and pre-stop signs and more road markings.
”We’re going to try to do everything we can to try to avoid that in the future,” said Firster.
Engineer Randy Smith said the review ”would take a look at the intersection in its entirety, from a lighting standpoint, from a guardrail standpoint, things of that nature.”
According to a police report, the vehicle smashed into the home at 4145 Bushnell Campbell Road shortly after 2 a.m. Residents inside were not hurt, but a Dodge truck parked in the driveway was badly damaged from the crash. It was so powerful, the guardrail was inside the house, along with half of the Ford.
The driver of the Ford, Taylor Matson, 19, of Kinsman, will be cited with failure to yield at a stop sign and failure to control. More charges could be filed. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
