School races fill up with hopefuls
WARREN – School board races in Liberty and McDonald that were short on candidates now have enough people running in November’s election to fill the openings.
Three candidates in Liberty and five candidates in McDonald filed as write-in candidates at the Trumbull County Board of Elections by Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
These board of education races just last week did not have enough candidates, write-in or otherwise, to fill the vacant seats.
Just one person filed for three open seats on the Liberty school board by Aug. 7, the deadline for a candidate to have his or her name appear on the ballot. However, just last week, James Jones had his candidacy rejected because he fell short of the valid signature requirement on his nominating petitions.
Filing in Liberty as write-in candidates were Carmen Faustino, Calvin Jones and Gloria Lang.
In McDonald, not one person filed for two available seats. Now, there is a contested race among write-in candidates: Brian Fisher, Valerie Helco, Robert Jones Jr., Joseph Krumpak Jr. and Tegan Stitt.
Others running as write-in candidates are David Wilson, unopposed in Newton Falls’ third ward council race; Caleb Roth in a six-person race in Warren Township for two trustee seats; and Tyler Wolfe, who makes it a four-person race for three seats on the Maplewood Board of Education.
