Niles findings go to prosecutor

NILES – City police are continuing their investigating of a shooting that killed a man last week, apparently during a burglary attempt.

Even so, Niles police Chief Rob Hinton said on Monday that investigators plan to present the results of their investigation to the prosecutor’s office for review on whether the shooting was justified.

The investigation is still in the early stages, Hinton said.

Terry D. Allen, 36, of Mineral Ridge, was fatally shot early Friday morning. A resident of 1539 Niles Cortland Road called police about 12:30 a.m. to report a burglary in progress. Someone was trying to get through two doors, he said.

The resident met police at another door. He told police he fired a single shot toward the door someone was trying to get through, but didn’t know if he’d hit anyone.

Police said they found the body of a man, later identified as Allen, who appeared to have died from a gunshot wound. He was still outside the residence, according to reports.
