Warren police hunt gunman
WARREN – City police on Wednesday were looking for a gunman believed to have been involved in at least two robberies earlier in the day.
In one case, an 18-year-old woman told police that she and another woman were robbed at gunpoint in a former school parking lot at 930 Palmyra Road S.W. around 12:45 a.m. She told police they were walking on the sidewalk on the north side of Palmyra Road when they “noticed a small, skinny” male walking toward them, according to a Warren police report.
The police report states that the women moved into the parking lot and let the person pass them. A moment later the women heard footsteps from behind, and when they turned around, the same male was now approaching them, the reports states.
He was carrying a black handgun “which he was working the slide on,” the women told police.
The women froze as the gunman asked them what they had on them. One replied that she had nothing as the gunman grabbed a purse from the other woman, the report states.
Still pointing the gun at the women, the gunman ordered them to turn around so they wouldn’t see where he went, the report states.
The women said they complied, heard him run, and when they turned back around he was gone, the report states.
The women told police the gunman was wearing a black bandanna and that he sounded like a boy.
Police searched the area and asked several people at a nearby gas station whether they had seen anyone in the road matching the gunman’s description, but they all said they had not.
Around 12:50 a.m., A Riverview Street woman told police that she and two friends were sitting on her front porch enjoying a cigarette when they noticed a male on a bicycle ride past. A few seconds later, the same individual appeared, wearing a red bandanna over his face and pointing a black handgun at them, according to a Warren police report.
The police report states the gunman ordered them to empty their pockets as he then worked the action of the handgun as if to chamber a round. One person told the gunman she didn’t have anything and another handed his wallet which had an unknown amount of cash and contents, over to the gunman, the report states.
The gunman got back onto the bicycle and rode westward on Riverview Street, the report states.
The police report indicated there was at least one more incident involving a gunman matching the same description; however, police did not provide any details.
No injuries were reported.
