Man faces murder charge

WARREN – City police went to a Dickey Avenue home early Sunday morning on reports of a possible disturbance with injuries, but found the body of a man in his backyard.

Police confirmed George L. Myers, 57, 148 Dickey Ave., likely was beaten to death. They charged Jerred Watson, 28, also of 148 Dickey Ave. N.W., with murder in connection to Myers’ death. He was arrested Monday and is scheduled to be arraigned today.

Investigators said Watson was Myers’ daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

Warren police Lt. Jeff Cole said it appeared Myers had been beaten to death. A police report indicated a blunt instrument was the type of weapon / force used in his death.

“It’s not clear right now how he was killed, but it appears he was beaten with some kind of a blunt object,” Cole said.

The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office confirmed an autopsy was being done on Monday to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Police said they found Myers dead when they went to his home about 4 a.m. and began investigating it as a homicide immediately.

When reached by a Tribune Chronicle reporter by telephone on Monday family members said they did not want to comment. However, one of the witnesses listed on the police report, Katheryn Petrilla of McDonald, said the matter was very disturbing and sad. She declined to say anything more.

Myers’ death marks the city’s fourth homicide of 2013. Warren had five homicides last year.
