Woman pleads innocent to theft

CORTLAND – A North Bloomfield woman remains free on $5,000 bond after pleading not guilty Friday to charges of theft and forgery in connection with $97,000 that is missing from a Fowler construction company.

Alicia Sardich, 28, of 1760 Kinsman Road, North Bloomfield, will appear later at a preliminary hearing in Central District Court.

Owners of Trumbull Contracting / Keystone Recycling contacted Trumbull County Sheriff’s investigators this week, accusing Sardich, a secretary there for the past 14 months, of stealing more than 30 checks over the last nine months.

Deputies said Sardich wrote checks to herself and on a Seven Seventeen Credit Union account of a relative.

She later told detectives she has a gambling problem.

Sardich, who was using the last name of Rice, has been on five years of probation since pleading guilty Sept. 12, 2012, to charges of robbery from Kohl’s Department Store.
