Police ID purse-snatching suspect from Elm Road incident

WARREN – Police have identified a man they believe stole an elderly woman’s purse at a Giant Eagle on Elm Road earlier this month.

Mykael Zolovick, 19, of Kinsman, was charged Friday with fifth-degree felony theft, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police said they identified Zolovick through dozens of tips they received after a picture taken from a security camera was published Thursday in the Tribune Chronicle and other media outlets.

According to police, the 67-year-old woman was in front of Giant Eagle about 2 p.m. Feb. 9 when a man took her purse. The woman told police the man was with another man and they left in a silver Pontiac G6.

Warren Detective Michael Currington said callers also named another individual, but that person was ruled out based on various physical features, including height and the description provided by the woman.

“We received so many tips from people acquainted with him, and we put it together from that and other information we had,” Currington said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or Zolovick’s whereabouts to contact Currington at 330-841-2660.
