Warren police investigate late Wednesday shooting
WARREN – A city man was wounded by gunfire Wednesday night during a robbery in front of his home, police said.
Lt. Martin Gargas said police received a call shortly before 9 p.m. from Idylwild Street N.E. residents who reported hearing gunshots and that someone had been shot.
Police found a victim they described as a ”66-year-old white male” with multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home at 170 Idylwild, Gargas said. The man, whose name was not being released, was transported by Med Star Ambulance to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Gargas said the man was shot in what appears to be a robbery.
A possible suspect is in custody at the police station, he said.
Police could be seen escorting a man from another home on the street located closer to North Park Avenue to a cruiser for transport. The man’s name was not released as charges had yet to be filed. Gargas said it was unknown if the person was involved.
Scanner traffic reported someone was seen running through backyards. Police chased the suspect through yards.
Several police officers remained were at the scene after 9 p.m. using flashlights to check the local yards in the 100 block of the street for bullets. One yard had been taped off by police.
Gargas said detectives were called and continued to look into what took place.
