Police chase juvenile thief
WARREN – A 16-year-old Youngstown boy was being held at the Juvenile Justice Center lockup after Warren police said they spotted the teen in a stolen pickup truck moments after the owner of the vehicle reported the theft.
Patrolman John Massaro heard a dispatcher broadcast the description of the 1990 full-size Chevrolet pickup that had been stolen from the Jamestown Village Plaza parking lot on Mahoning Avenue N.W. about 10:30 a.m. The owner saw the vehicle drive off while he was in Rent-A-Center.
Massaro spotted the vehicle on Atlantic Street N.E. near North Road, and the chase was on from there.
Police said the car headed south on North Road and east on state Route 82 and south on state Route 11.
At mile marker 51, the teenager bailed out of the pickup and tried to escape on foot, with Massaro and Patrolman Ben Harrell giving chase, a police report states.
Massaro caught the boy behind a home on Stillwagon Road in Howland, police said.
The teen was treated at a local hospital before he was taken to JJC, the report states.
Police said the suspect – whose name was not given – also was being held on a detainer, accusing him of a past auto theft in Trumbull County.
