Letson out for open PUCO seat

State Rep. Tom Letson, D-Warren, is not among the final four applicants for an open seat on the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Letson, who made the first round of cuts, had an interview for the position Thursday in Columbus.

Picked by a nominating committee to be considered by Ohio Gov. John Kasich were Andrew Bergman and M. Beth Trombold, both of Columbus; G. Raymond Lorello of Powell; and Dan Shields of Westerville.

The governor has 90 days to pick a nominee or request a new list of names from the committee. His appointment must be confirmed by the Ohio Senate.

The seat became open Jan. 1 due to the resignation of Democrat Cheryl Roberto, who in November announced her last day on the five-person commission was Dec. 31. Whoever is selected will fill Roberto’s unexpired term and it’s presumed will be appointed to another five-year term beginning April 11.
