Thurs. 8:45 p.m.: Brookfield gets 26 superintendent applicants

BROOKFIELD – Twenty-six people applied to be the district’s new superintendent, and the Board of Education will begin paring down the list to 10 or so for interviewing purposes.

The board will start scheduling interviews soon because they would like to select someone in time for their May 22 meeting. Board President Ronda Bonekovic said Wednesday the board was meeting for the first time to look over the applicants, which included people from the area, other areas of Ohio and other states.

“We are aiming to have someone selected at our May meeting. I was shocked we received 26 applicants. I never thought we would receive that many applicants,” she said.

The superintendent position became open because Superintendent Velina Jo Taylor will be leaving at the end of July to become the new superintendent for the Lakeview Local School District in Cortland.
