Sat. 9:30 p.m.: Sinkhole solution a slow process

BAZETTA -Two sinkholes running along a sewer line on Saddlebrook Lane property belonging to Nicole O’Rourke and Dominic Mastropietro are increasing in size, but the process for fixing the problem has not been a quick one.

O’Rourke’s mother, Lisa Perrino, is upset that after several months, nothing as yet has been done.

“It’s been here since last year. No one has come out and fixed it yet. I’ve called the commissioners, the auditors and the engineers. I’m sick and tired,” said Perrino. “These are $500,000 houses and there are thousands of children in the area that could fall in. I can’t even take my 5-year-old granddaughter to play outside because she could fall in. No one seems to care and I’m sick of it.”

Saddlebrook Lane sits in the Timber Creek Heights Drainage District with a catch basin on state Route 46. According to the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, the corrugated metal piping in the sinkhole has separated and the bottom has rusted out, so anytime it rains, more dirt will be swept in through the pipes, making the sinkhole bigger.
