Fri. 9:40 p.m.: Powerball jackpot hits $625 million
WARREN — For $2, someone could end up winning $625 million in Saturday’s Powerball drawing.
The odds are one in 24.9 chances of winning the Powerball, a number that doesn’tt change no matter how much the jackpot is worth, according to the Powerball website. No matter the odds, people still buy a ticket and try to win.
Christina Vorrias, a cashier at Valley View, 2110 Elm Rd NE, said more people buy Powerball tickets when the prize is bigger. About 40 to 50 people buy tickets on a typical day when the jackpot is large, Vorrias said.
Lynn Styles of Warren decided to buy a Powerball ticket for the first time after hearing how large the jackpot was.
“I don’t often buy lottery tickets, but someone has to win, and it can’t be me if I don’t play,” said Styles.
If she won, Styles said she would use the money to pay off her car and bills first, and then take her friends and family on a trip to thank them for all their help and financial support.
