Tues. 8:30 p.m.: Deemer Park sale off the table?

WARREN – Councilwoman Cheryl Saffold, D-6th Ward, announced today her intentions to table legislation that would allow the Western Reserve Port Authority to sell Deemer Park on behalf of the city and later will have it stricken from council record.

“When the mayor asked me to sponsor the legislation, I did not realize that so many people – whether it is the (Warren Little Raiders) football team or area residents – used that park,” Saffold said.

“The park is not in my ward,” she said. “I would never sponsor this kind of legislation without having residents providing input.”

Saffold is council’s community development committee chair.

The administration sought to have Deemer Park included in a package of properties that council last year approved allowing the Western Reserve Port Authority to sell if buyers could be found.

It is looking to add the approximately 22 acres in Deemer Park because a potential business that has not been named expressed interest in buying the property for development.
