UPDATE – Fri. 3:35 p.m.: Buyouts offered to local GM workers

LORDSTOWN – Hundreds of workers at the General Motors Lordstown complex will be laid off effective June 18, according to workers leaving the plant after an announcement was made there this afternoon.

Workers exiting the facility moments ago said the announcement was met with shouting and outbursts.

One worker, Carrie Raupach, said a $60,000 buyout was offered to workers, with management saying they hoped that could offset most or all of the layoffs. Raupach offered little details, but said she had worked at the complex for 40 years and planned to accept the buyout offer.

A specific number of workers who will lose their jobs has not yet been released.
