Mon. 5 p.m.: Court reverses Danny Lee Hill death sentence

WARREN – A federal appeals court ruled convicted killer Danny Lee Hill is intellectually disabled and should not be put to death for the brutal murder of 12-year-old Raymond Fife in 1985.

The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Hill’s conviction, but reversed a lower court’s decision upholding the death sentence and ordered the case be sent back to Trumbull County Common Pleas Court so Hill could be resentenced.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has been asked by Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins to step in to appeal the decision to the circuit court’s full panel of judges or to the U.S. Supreme Court.
