Tues. 3:40 p.m.: Roberts files appeal with U.S. Supreme Court
WARREN – Death row inmate Donna Roberts has filed an appeal of her aggravated murder conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In a letter dated Dec. 12 to the Supreme Court of Ohio, Scott Harris, clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court, states that Roberts’ case has been placed on the court’s docket.
The action comes after Ohio’s high court, for the third time, upheld the aggravated murder conviction and death sentence for Roberts. She is accused of plotting the December 2001 slaying of her husband, Robert Fingerhut, in their Howland home.
The Ohio high court made its decision in May after hearing oral arguments Feb 6.
Roberts, who is the only female facing execution in Ohio, appealed her case after a second Trumbull County judge gave her a death sentence in 2014.
