Tues. 10:35 pm: Howland trustees keep their seats
HOWLAND – Voters in Howland opted Tuesday to keep two of their trustees who faced off against a political newcomer for two seats on the township board, according to incomplete and unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
Incumbents James J. LaPolla, 54, and Matthew Vansuch, 37, held off challenger Sal Ciferno, 62, a General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant retiree who promised to be accessible to Howland residents.
LaPolla took 36 percent of the vote, Vansuch 35.9 percent and Ciferno 28 percent, according to incomplete and unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections. The position pays about $16,000 a year.
