Tue 11 p.m.: Howland Board of Education adds new member
HOWLAND — Voters opted to add a new member to the Howland Board of Education while keeping two incumbents, according to incomplete and unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
Julie Altawil, 41, a political newcomer who said she ran for the board because she wanted to see change, took 20 percent of the vote.
Kenneth Jones, 49, and Susan Brucoli, 61, held onto their seats with 22.2 and 21.9 percent of the vote, according to incomplete and unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
Another incumbent, the Rev. Matthew J. Darrin, 49, pastor at Howland United Methodist Church, lost out on a second term on the school board with 12.1 percent of the vote, but said he wishes Altawil and the others on the board the best of luck.
Rounding out the race, Brian F. Burkey Sr., 39, and Daniel J. Sferra, 37, received 10.6 percent and 13.2 percent of the votes respectively.
