Thur. 3:07 p.m.: Powerhouse bar intentionally set on fire, chief said

WARREN – The Powerhouse Bar & Grill, whose liquor license renewal city officials are opposing due to numerous instances of criminal activity occurring outside the bar, was intentionally set on fire Thursday.

“There were multiple points of origin on the first floor with no single source of origin,” said fire Chief Ken Nussle. Samples need to be analyzed by the state to determine whether an accelerant was used to set the fire.

The fire was reported at 4:32 a.m. Thursday when a passerby saw heavy smoke on Mahoning Avenue NW across from the bar. Nussle said the fire started on the first floor and extended to the second floor and into the roof. There were no injuries, he said.
