Thur. 12:16 p.m.: Warren shooting victim from Wednesday night identified

WARREN – The man shot Wednesday night inside the Big Apple convenience store on Youngstown Road SE has been identified by police as Gabriel Lofton, 29, of Stephens Avenue NW, according to a report.

The shooting happened during a fight that broke out at about 10 p.m., the report states. The store’s owner, who wasn’t present when the shooting occurred, called police about the fight after an employee called him about it. When police arrived the fight was over and they were told the victim had been put in a car that headed north on Woodbine Avenue SE.

Lofton was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where one of the vehicle’s occupants went inside, grabbed a wheelchair, put Lofton in it and left, the report states. Police talked to Lofton at the hospital and he was not cooperative, according to the report.
