Tues. 11:10 a.m.: Cruze sales fall 10 percent for July

LORDSTOWN – The Chevrolet Cruze saw a 10.5 percent drop in domestic sales last month compared to July 2016.

Even so, the historically popular small car posted a 16.9 percent, year-to-date increase, as of July 31, for U.S. sales compared to the first seven months last year.

General Motors, in its latest sales report released today, said 12,278 Cruzes were sold last month. Of those, 10,218 were Cruze sedans made at the GM Assembly Complex in Lordstown and 2,060 were Cruze hatchbacks made in Mexico, but sold in the United States.

In July 2016, 13,723 Cruze sedans were sold. The hatchback was not launched until later last year.

Overall, GM sold 226,107 vehicles in July, down 15.4 percent from the same month last year.
