9:15 p.m. Sun: Eight vehicles involved in I-76 crash

NORTH JACKSON — Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post were at the scene late Sunday evening investigating a multiple-vehicle accident on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 that closed lanes and sent people to the hospital.

The eight-vehicle accident, which included cars, a jeep, SUV, construction vans and tractor trailer, happened at I-76 and Bailey Road interchange in North Jackson around 6 p.m. reports state.

A patrol spokesman said crews remained on the scene about 9 p.m. It is believed some people involved in the accident were taken to the hospital.

Reports indicate there was also a second crash, a half mile east of the Route 534 interchange in the eastbound lanes of I-76 around 7:30 p.m. That accident involved a car and semi truck, reports state, and traffic was being redirected.

Reports indicate two medical helicopters landed at the scene.

Austintown, North Jackson and Lordstown fire responded to the crashes.

Trumbull County 911 dispatch says two people have been taken to the hospital in critical condition.
