Sat. 10 p.m.: Coming Sunday – Tourism tries to recover after money restored

COMING SUNDAY: After nine months of a reduced budget for the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau, the county restored the half percent it had diverted to another project.

The reduction, which amounted to about 27 percent of the bureau’s budget said tourism board chairman Jim Bugos, caused the agency to not print its visitor’s guide, which goes to travel centers on the interstates and is mailed to responders to the website, Director Stephanie Sferra said. The guide cost $15,000 to print.

Instead, Sferra said she used old tourism guides to fill about 16,000 requests for information from people who sought it.

Also, “We had to pull back some of the money for re-organizing our website and some other of our advertising outreach,” Bugos said.

Read the full story on Sunday on why money was redistributed to another project, why it was restored and what happened to the tourism bureau in the interim.
