Wed. 5:20 pm: Commissioners adjust bed tax allocation again

WARREN Trumbull County commissioners on Wednesday – for the second time in less than a year – amended the allocation of the county’s 5 percent lodging tax, this time restoring the county Convention and Tourism Bureau the half percent the board took away last August.

The move as of Saturday would split the 5 percent bed tax 60 percent to the Western Reserve Port Authority and 40 percent for the Tourism Bureau.

“On behalf of the bureau’s membership, we are appreciative of the commissioners,” said county Tourism director Stephanie Sferra after the commissioners’ vote during the meeting held at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center.

Sferra said last Aug. 3 the action had taken 27 percent of the tourism budget.

“We are going to resume some of the projects that had to be scaled back, with the first priority is website development,” Sferra said.
