Tues. 7:35 pm: Speed camera revenue funding street paving in Girard
GIRARD – After reviewing the condition of streets throughout the city to find which need the most work, city council will proceed with a $422,100 paving project this summer.
Mayor James Melfi said Monday the city received a $164,600 Ohio Public Works grant covering 39 percent of the project cost that will be paired with $257,520 from the city covering 61 percent of the cost.
“Last year we applied for funding and received it. There will be a substantial amount of paving this year,” Melfi said.
He said $332,000 of the money in the street fund came from the proceeds from speed cameras implemented last summer. Officials said more than $400,000 was collected from the cameras last year.
