Tues. 8:40 pm: Trial date set for man accused in overdose deaths

WARREN – A Warren man accused of causing last fall’s overdose death of a pregnant Niles woman will stand trial April 24 on felony charges connected to the case.

Anton Lee Perry, 22, of 134 Maryland Ave. NW., appeared Tuesday before Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan for a pretrial. Perry said he has not yet hired a defense attorney, so Logan appointed public defender David Rouzzo to temporarily represent Perry to get the case moving forward.

The judge refused Rouzzo’s motion to reduce Perry’s bond to $50,000, so Perry remains in custody at the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of posting a $1 million bond. Special prosecutor Nicholas A. Iarocci, Ashtabula County prosecutor, argued that reducing the defendant’s bond would not be a good idea since he is being charged in connection to two deaths.
