Fri. 8:20 pm: Vallourec to boost workforce

YOUNGSTOWN – An apparent turnaround in the energy field has prompted at least one local plant to rebuild its workforce.

Vallourec Star confirmed its Youngstown plant is hiring for all shifts.

In an email to the Tribune Chronicle, spokeswoman Jean Gaetano stated, “We’ve seen signs of improvement in the U.S. oil and gas market where the rig count and OCTG (oil country tubular goods) demand have increased for the first time since the end of 2014. This progressive market recovery is anticipated for 2017. The increased demand has resulted in increased production volumes at all Vallourec Star locations.”

Gaetano said Vallourec is hiring skilled production, maintenance and electronic technicians for all shifts. However, she did not disclose how many people the company plans to hire.
