Weds. 9:20 pm: Ryan still mulling challenge to Pelosi
House Democrats have delayed Thursday’s scheduled vote on leadership, giving Mahoning Valley Congressman Timothy J. Ryan more time to decide whether he wants to challenge his former mentor, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Ryan, 43, D-Howland, spent most of Wednesday talking to House colleagues about whether he should run for the leadership position, according to Michael Zetts, the congressman’s spokesman.
“My goal was to get the election delayed for a couple of weeks, so now we are going to have conversation to see what direction we are heading,” Ryan told the Tribune Chronicle Wednesday evening. “We got killed on Tuesday (Nov. 8), and we have to do something different.”
Ryan said if Congress is going to become Democratic again, the party has to pull voters out of Republican congressional districts.
