Tues. 9:20 pm: Cortland man charged in beating of pup

CORTLAND – A Cortland man will be in Central District Court Wednesday morning answering felony charges connected to the beating of a puppy.

Collin J. Macaulay, 19, of Gates Street, faces two counts of intimidation of a witness and a charge of prohibitions concerning companion animals. The second charge is the newest animal cruelty law passed by the Ohio legislature this year that is commonly known as “Goddard’s Law.”

Macaulay is in Trumbull County Jail pending a bond being set Wednesday in his hearing before Judge Thomas A. Campbell.

According to a report released by police Chief Thomas Andrews,  neighbors at the Gates Street apartment complex called to say they heard a neighbor beating his dog.
