Fri. 10 a.m.: Flora Cafaro perishes in house fire
BROOKFIELD – Trumbull County businesswoman and philanthropist Flora Cafaro, 58, died following a house fire at her Brookfield home late Thursday, the Cafaro Company confirmed this morning.
Cafaro, 58, was transported from her home, 5752 Stewart Sharon Road SE, to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she was pronounced dead. The fire, which which broke out in an upstairs bedroom about 4 p.m., is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze by a home fire alarm. Cafaro was found in the upstairs bathroom. A statement released by Niles-based Cafaro Company this morning said the exact cause of her death, as well as the cause of the fire, are believed to be accidental.
“She was a wonderful mother, a businesswoman and a philanthropist. Our family is just devastated by this tragedy,” said Anthony Cafaro Sr., Flora Cafaro’s brother.
Brother John J. Cafaro added, “Our family is deeply saddened. Flora was loved by everyone inside and outside our family.”
Cafaro is survived by her two adult sons, William Cafaro-Ferraro and Jon Cafaro-Ferraro; her two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
