Wed. 9:15 pm: Forum allows local leaders to highlight military base efforts

VIENNA – Col. James Dignan said he is confident the recent Ohio Defense Forum he attended in Columbus was a good step toward highlighting the work taking place at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station and the impact it has locally, regionally and nationally.

“Opportunities like this  definitely help when it comes to building stronger ties between the base and the community and vice versa,” Dignan said.

Dignan, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing at the base in Vienna, said getting as many people involved as possible can help the state “get a better inventory of what it has” and how to best protect it.

Dignan was among several local leaders to participate in the two-day event last week at Ohio State University. The forum was hosted by U.S. Rep. Michael Turner, R-Dayton.

Valley participants included Mike Hripko, associate vice president for research, Youngstown State University; Attorney Vito J. Abruzzino, director, Eastern Ohio Military Affairs Commission (EOMAC); and Abigail Beniston, Youngstown’s code enforcement and blight remediation superintendent.
