Tues. 8:40 pm: Federal judge gives Warren man probation for brine dumping
YOUNGSTOWN – A federal judge has placed a Warren man on probation for his participation in what officials have said was the purposeful dumping of brine and oilfield waste into a city storm drain in late 2012 and early 2013.
David N. Jenkins was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty earlier to allowing an unpermitted discharge in violation of the Clean Water Act by directing another employee of Hardrock Excavating LLC to release the waste liquid stored at the Salt Springs Road facility into a drain without a permit to do so, according to court documents.
The waste eventually made its way to an unnamed tributary of the Mahoning River and ultimately, the river.
